Ci è un traghetto di notte del quotidiano da Vanino sul continente, sul Vanino partente al mezzogiorno e sull'arrivare in Kholmsk la mattina prossima, comunque navigando i programmi sono contagiati spesso tramite il maltempo. In Vanino i biglietti sono comprati all'interno della stazione di treno, nei biglietti che di Kholmsk le vendite sono al terminale del traghetto, situato nel centro della città. Il traghetto è funzionato da SASCO [1] Da ed a Vanino , ci è un collegamento quotidiano del treno a Komsomolsk-su-Amur quello continua ulteriore sud a Khabarovsk e Vladivostok per accesso al Trasporto-Siberiano mainline.

Sakhalin è una regione indicata speciale del bordo, movimento degli stranieri è limitato. Per entrare in Sakhalin siete tenuti a registrare con le autorità locali. Durante lo sbarco siete tenuti a fornire il vostri biglietto del traghetto, passaporto e bolli di registro. Dopo che tutti i passeggeri escano sarete presi all'ufficio doganale per un'intervista, il vostro passaporto soltanto sarete passati di nuovo voi dopo che l'intervista sia completata. Durante l'intervista dovete fornire le informazioni sullo scopo della vostri chiamata, punto e data dell'uscita e sistemazione. Nessun inglese è parlato, avendo le suddette informazioni redatte nel Russo si raccomanda.

Wikipedia: There are several ferry routes connecting the mainland with Sakhalin, but unless you posses time, patience, and Russian skills in abundance, your choice is pretty much limited to the daily ferry service between Vanino on the mainland, and Kholmsk on the islands western coast. Vanino is linked with the rest of the Russian railway network by a daily service to Vladivostok, with stops in Komsomolsk and Khabarovsk en route. In the summer months another option is a Japanese operated ferry service linking Korsakov on the shore of Aniva Bay, at the southern tip of the island, with Wakkanai on the northern tip of Hokkaido.  

4. Vanino to Khabarovsk: train.

Vanino is not on the Trans-Siberian line proper, it's on the BAM. There is a daily train going from Vanino down to Khabarovsk, which is a nice city on the Trans-Siberian. The train is #351 or #350. It leaves daily, at 6pm. Russian train tickets aren't refundable, so it doesn't make sense to buy your ticket before arriving in Vanino, given how irregular the ferry is. We arrived (the ferry ticket includes a free bus shuttle from the ferry terminal to the Vanino train station), and had 15 minutes to buy our ticket and get on the train for Khabarovsk. Tip: make an English-speaking friend on the ferry, and ask their help in buying the ticket. You could probably find camping in Vanino without much trouble.

The train was 24 hours. Platskarte class is cheap and excellent. Ask for seats in the range #39-52 for more space. It costs about $30..
